Nehelenia (Neherenia, Nephrenia) attended the throne of the Dead Moon when she was very young. So we can guess that her parents must had died before and she was alone. Chibi-Nehelenia was admired by the servants and all people at her court for her beauty. But she didn't have any real friends. That didn't change when she grew up and she started to believe that only her beauty mattered. That's why she was very afraid of growing old. One day when she asked her only friend, her reflection in the magic mirror, what she would look like in the future it showed her an ugly old woman. Nehelenia was shocked and decided that she would do anything to remain her beauty. The mirror responded to this wish and changed her into a evil but still beautiful creature with snake like eyes. The voice from the mirror told her that she had to take all the Dream Mirrors from her servants and courtiers and to store them all inside her. Without their Dream Mirrors the people from the Dead Moon changed into Lemures.

But still Nehelenia was not satisfied. She was envy of the Silver Millennium's prosperity and wanted to take over the Moon Kingdom. Therefore she needed the golden crystal which was located on a sacred place on earth. It was guarded by Helios. The queen went there, saw him and wanted to rule the universe with him. But he refused to give her the golden crystal, she wanted to take it by force but it punished her with flames. Queen Serenity decided that Nehelenia should be sealed in the Darkness of the New Moon. There she had to stay for a very long time.

And then ... when a special eclipse finally has arrived Nehelenia is able to send her Lemures to Elysion. They capture Helios and destroy the land of dreams. But Helio's spirit escapes together with the golden crystal. In order to catch him (Pegasus) Nehelenia sends the Dead Moon Circus with her best warriors to earth. Finally they find the owner of the Golden Dream Mirror and Nehelenia captures Chibi Usa. She forces Pegasus to leave the Dream Mirror and takes the golden crystal. Further she uses spiderwebs to cover Tokyo and during another eclipse she is able to break free. It seems that she has won because the whole earth is covered with darkness. But she underestimates the power of human's dreams. She loses the golden crystal. Sailormoon and Chibimoon get it and destroy the Dead Moon Circus.

However, Nehelenia is still alive and captures Chibimoon. Together with a large piece of wreckage Nehelenia rises into the air. Her mirror is broken and she starts to age rapidly. An ugly looking creature (similar to Zirconia) with the body of a large worm comes out of her belly and tries to kill Sailormoon. But Nehelenia can't stand Sailormoon's look and in order to punish Sailormoon who she has recognized as the Moon Princess she throws Chibimoon over the edge. After Sailormoon has followed Chibimoon Nehelenia thinks that she has killed them both and returns into her mirror. There she is sealed again into the shadow of the New Moon floating in a vortex full of mirrors.

There she would have stayed forever if Galaxia haven't come and freed her. Galaxia shows her that Sailormoon is still alive and Nehelenia wants revenge. Therefore she breaks her own black Dream Mirror and the tiny shards fall towards earth. Everyone who gets a shard in his eye is going to become her slave. So she gets Mamoru into her grasp. She pulls him into a mirror and all people controlled by her are also caught in mirrors. She sets a trap for Usagi and seals all the other senshi in mirrors. Finally Usagi's kindness and love are strong enough to overpower Nehelenia's hate. The evil mirror shatters completely. With the help of all senshi Nehelenia is sent back to her childhood where she finds real friends.
